Thanks to its ability to adapt to the different terroirs across the world, Cabernet Sauvignon produces very different wines that are distinguished by their character, quality and peculiarity. The new varietals of the Apuntes line are a great example of this so characteristic terroir expression, two findings resulting from an exhaustive tour and the deep knowledge of each of the corners of our vineyards: Apuntes Cabernet Sauvignon Valle de Canota and Apuntes Cabernet Sauvignon Altamira.
Our intimate knowledge of the terroir of Mendoza, acquired for over 120 years, demonstrates that each estate, plot and barrel reflect exceptionality and uniqueness; we just need to know how to perceive them. This is how we conceived the Apuntes line, made up of limited edition wines that mirror something different and unique.
Apuntes Cabernet Sauvignon Valle de Canota is born in a new productive area that is now the talk of the town. This new valley for Mendoza’s viticulture, which is currently proving to have huge potential for the production of very different wines, stretches alongside the Villavicencio Natural Reserve, and is located between the pre-Andean mountain range and Sierra de las Higueras.
First, this terroir stands out for the great presence of colluvial material in its soil, its different-sized stones with edged surfaces and the dark shading in the sector that is exposed to the sun.
Second, another interesting aspect of this terroir is its microclimate: the Canota Valley is a warm and temperate area in Mendoza, due to two factors that directly influences the climate: on the one hand, its altitude (as it is located between 950 and 1200 meters above sea level), and, on the other, for its geographical features, as this is a valley surrounded by hills that lead to increased airflow, thus helping improve the vines’ health and naturally preserve them.
With Apuntes Cabernet Sauvignon Valle de Canota, the goal of Engineer Alberto Arizu and Head Winemaker Pablo Cúneo is to show a different version of this variety.
Por la marcada influencia del terroir, los vinos del Valle de Canota se caracterizan por una gran intensidad de color, muy buena estructura tánica, acidez marcada y gran persistencia aromática. Con el vino Apuntes Cabernet Sauvignon Valle de Canota, la intención del Ing. Alberto Arizu y del Director de Enología Pablo Cúneo es mostrar otra versión de este varietal. Es un Cabernet que se destaca por su tipicidad y sus notas a fruta negra y especias maduras, como el pimentón. Un vino concentrado, de buen volumen y dulzura en boca, distinto a aquellos elaborados en otras zonas de la provincia tanto por su impronta como por su personalidad genuina y original.
Por su parte, el Paraje Altamira es un micro-terroir que se caracteriza por la elegancia y el carácter de sus vinos. La austeridad de sus suelos pedregosos, poco profundos y de formación aluvial favorece el desarrollo de vides y uvas de gran sanidad, ya que el agua drena fácilmente y las raíces se alimentan de los componentes minerales. Además, por la gran amplitud térmica entre el día y la noche; aquí los frutos maduran de forma muy equilibrada. En Altamira, los tintos son elegantes, ágiles, austeros y con notas minerales y especiadas.
Apuntes Cabernet Sauvignon Altamira es un tinto color rubí con reflejos oscuros en el que se perciben intensos aromas que recuerdan a fruta negra como casis, hojas de aguaribay, confitura de naranja y pimiento verde. En boca presenta taninos finos y firmes, buen cuerpo, gran equilibrio y persistencia.
